Lime Rock karts crash; Teens flown to hospital

Sounds like some teens broke into the track tonight, went racing, and suffered some serious injuries.

Life Star Helicopter dispatched to the scene

Ambulances, firefighters and medical evacuation helicopters are converging on Lime Rock Park in Salisbury in response to a crash Wednesday evening, according to emergency dispatchers.

Dispatchers said injuries have been reported. It’s not clear how many people were hurt or how. State police spokesman Trooper First Class Kelly Grant said it does not appear there was a scheduled race at the track.

Authorities said the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m.

Emergency personnel from the Falls Village and Lakeville fire departments, along with ambulances from Falls Village and Salisbury have been sent to the scene.

Dispatchers said LifeStar and LifeNet, the medical helicopter service based in Albany, New York, are also responding.

State police troopers are investigating.

Keimola was a Finnish race track that went out of business in 70’s during the energy crisis. Motorcycle enthusiasts often sneaked to the closed track and went racing. But then there was a crash with a moose and the local farmers destroyed the track surface very badly by plowing it with tractors.

This is bad news. People make dumb mistakes, especially teen people, I hope they end up ok.

I’m supposed to participate in a 6 hr karting enduro there on Saturday, wonder if that will still happen...

At least they went to a track, because we all don’t want Ze Kiddos street racing in their mom’s CR-V, or something like that.

But seriously. Kart racing isn’t *that* expensive. Why break in and need a LifeFlight to the hospital?

Yeah, because you never did anything stupid as a teenager and were lucky to get away unscathed. At least they weren’t out racing their cars on the street.

only drag raced on street once. nearly got caught , lesson learnt.

other guy i raced did get caught.
